Texto 3 (intermediário): The town library
Perguntas e respostas.

The town library
Our town library almost closed five years ago. Fewer people were borrowing books, and the city council wanted to use the building for offices. A group of neighbors decided to fight for it. They started a reading club for children, organized free English and computer classes for older people, and opened the space for students who needed a quiet place to study. Slowly, the library became busy again. Today it is open seven days a week, and most of the work is still done by volunteers. “We didn’t save a building,” says one of the founders. “We created a meeting point.”
- Why did the council want to close the library? — Fewer people were borrowing books, and it wanted to use the building for offices.
